Besides all my meetings for my *situation* which I still cannot talk about I have been trying to keep up with all things Fall....
My little shelf in the dining room has some of my favorite treasurers....an oil painting of Adam and Kristen made when they were 8 & 4 and it is still my favorite of all pictures of them....a bronze urn with bittersweet in it from one of my Spoon River trips, a wire egg gathering basket from a trip to the south....a salt box picture from another Spoon River trip and more bittersweet that my cousin sent me one year when I could not go. Also a bronze orchid arrangement Kristen gave me from her first job at a florist. The little egg basket was looking lost so I needed to bring it into the fold.....
I found a mixed color mum silk flower pick at 50% off.....
I just arranged the flowers in the basket and it added a little pop of color that I love for fall....
I was able to meet up several times for long lunches with friends that were so past due....this was one delish salad....I am going to try and duplicate it at home. The dressing was sweet and refreshing.....
I met a lady that was doing a shoe drive at a local school....that inspired me to go through all my shoes....these are just the ones I donated....Imelda Marcos had an influence on me at one time!
I was able to visit some friends that are ill and have had recent surgeries....I love doing this and have missed it the past few weeks....it was good to catch up with them and take them some fun surprise gifts....
When bagging up the recycling I noticed my lipstick plant is in full bloom! I swear it does better when I neglect it and ignore it....if I was hovering over it the picture would be of a dead stick....
Steve has two huge plumerias by the fountain....we always laugh as one blooms in the fall and one blooms in the spring....go figure....
Brody, Dylan and I continue our tradition of watching The Andy Griffith show....they love Barney and Brody wants to be Barney.....I made him a ticket pad....
Kristen brought over his police uniform.....
....and everyone and everything got a ticket! He is such an easy boy to entertain...very creative and loves to role play
Steve and I tried to keep up with our festival schedule! We went to (Ab)Normal Heights for the Adams Avenue Street Fair.....
This area has been 'revitalizing' since we moved here 20+ years ago....they have fun coffee shops....and bookstores and lots of artists....
This booth had items that reminded me of when we took the kids to see 'The Fly' at a drive in theatre in LA and after The Fly was over The Rocky Horror Show came on....Adam flipped out and loved it....all the people in the cars came out in costume and it was quite the event.....looking back, maybe not the best thing to take young kids to but we still laugh about it....
They had 6 bands....all good....
Steve and I got matching hippie bracelets....groovy
Kristen and Brian had lots of work and prep before their Hawaii trip so we were in charge of Soccer Picture Day....It was held at a huge park and it was an all day event.....
Lots of jumpers and play areas (way too expensive, but a captive audience)
Brody's pictures were at 10, so we had to be there at 9:30 and Dylan's were at 2:00 p.m. and they ran 40 minutes late.....they filled up there time playing $$$ games and winning *great* (not) prizes like a liter of lemonade!
....and this lovely green felt mustache (really people - that is the best prize you can give?)
I am happy to say the Purple Surfing Leopard Banner won 1ST Place....out of over 300 teams!
The boys had a day off school for teacher prep....we invited them over for the day....they are really into Star Wars now so I drug out Uncle Adam's old Darth Vader case with all the Star Wars figures....they had so much fun....
Brody lined up all the characters....after awhile Dylan moved back to Military toys....
but Brody did roll call on the team....all present and accounted for!
The same day Rocky had surgery....3 areas for skin tab removal, one by his eye and teeth cleaning in which they have to knock him out....so the cone of shame had to be placed! He has been miserable and it has to stay on until Wednesday....I was literally up 3 nights all night with him....
We decided to do a spooky project for Halloween.....I found an old lamp stand and we spray painted it black...
Once it dried we put on some spider webs......
....and some scary spiders!
We put crooked candles in where the light bulbs went and surprised mommy when she picked them up! They will use this in their annual Halloween party coming up soon!
My girlfriend and I had an fall open house party here.....we had so much fun hosting our friends and catching up with people we had not seen in ages!
Steve and I squeezed in the La Mesa Oktoberfest....we have been going for years and this year it was soooooo commercial....even Dave 'YUUUUUUUUUP' had a booth. I preferred the old days when it was the mom and pop vendors with all the handmade stuff.....disappointed in the street fair part....
However the side store shops outdid themselves....very impressed with their offerings....
Store after store had great displays!
I got lots of fun ideas.....
I had Steve bring my Halloween tubs in and I think I may decorate today....
Took this happy crew to the airport at O dark Thirty for their Hawaii getaway! Lucky people! Kristen and Brian are celebrating their 10th anniversary with the boys in Maui!
And for the past 2 weeks we have been remodeling on of our condos that we rent out....we finished this week and are now showing it for rent....hoping we get that sealed up soon!
Off to tackle my piles of bills and paperwork that needs attention.....I am starting with a list to unblur what is left....wish me luck!
