When I was little my MaMa Auten would tell me wonderful generational handed down stories about my ancestors, mostly from the American Revolution, Civil War, WWI and WWI and the sacrifices and suffering....I always wanted to know more and to try and understand what part in the history of America my family was a part of, however, working and children and just plain life never allowed any extra time to follow and document that path, and it is a major and somewhat expensive and expansive project! As I start to have a little bit more time in my days I have re-started my passionate research of my families part from the American Revolution on ....I would like to think that I would have been right in the middle of the action as depicted below in birthing our nation but I must admit I live in false reality about how I would have even existed back in the 1700's.....
There have been many surprises along the way, including that I have three patriots confirmed in the American Revolution and possibly more, however until all documents are validated, which is now a matter of paperwork that should be completed in a few days, I was invited to attend the DAR luncheon celebrating George's 283rd birthday! What a treat, especially since it may be that one of my patriots was in Valley Forge.....and the DAR data base tracks with such details, muster calls, etc., it is so exciting to hear the birth of the nation and all the details....more to come on this. Special shout out to my adorable and brilliant cousin, Mary Fairchild Bunney who has been instrumental in this as well!,
And since I am well documented Irish on mothers side....that's another story for another day....it involves Political Prisioners! Had to break out the St. Patricks décor to honor them!
The best part of any generation and history is family....I am so grateful and blessed to have two amazing children that love family time and make is so preciously wonderful....The Addie was able to pop over for the weekend....poor guy we try to soak him up so much he must feel smothered; however he just gives and gives. He knows I get up early so he gets up early....he knows his dad loves to stay up late so he stays up late....
He knows his nephews want to show him every.little.thing and want him to play, play and play... he is patient and kind with them....
He knows we will go to our favorite breakfast place and he will not order breakfast and we are ok with that....
He knows I will also make him tacos when he is here.....and I love doing that....
He knows his dad will need his help for a project I cook up and that his patience is a great balance to his dad's frustration.....
He knows that we will have hours of fun with this at future family days and picnics....
A special treat for me is that my granddog Cosby got to come as well....he has a special place in my heart....
You can tell I do because YES I allow him on top of my table!
And like his GiGi he likes his down time in a quiet place with his favorite blanket....
It was also a treat this week to have our annual tea with very very good friends....
Love this lady....she is so special and so delighted she invites me to her annual English high tea...it's such a treat!
Especially delightful to share this day with Kristen and her bestie Alison...friends since 2nd grade!
Such yummy treats, but nothing compares with the tea and girl talk!
