Loving School and Being Schooled

Brody is 6 this week!  This patient little boy has a birthday just 5 days (and 2 years) after his big brother Dylan and waiting for his turn at a birthday celebration is not so easy.  He was counting down the days!  He loves school and of all the birthday themes he could choose from he chose a school theme.  His mommy did it up right and I was lucky enough to help!

A family tradition is to make your own birthday cake.  He chose Fun Fetti cake with sprinkles and white frosting....

He then decorated it with sprinkles, a little chalkboard, a school bus, apples, a globe and the number 6!

As the guests arrived they needed to sign in the 'Attendance Office'.  They all printed so cute!
The very first guest was big brother Dylan fresh from his ball game....he got a very special welcome from the birthday boy!

The entry way had flags and a banner made from colorful flash cards.....

I had enough of my vintage blocks to spell out a birthday message to the birthday boy! and a bunch left over....I can't get enough vintage wood blocks!

Little table scape vignettes for the school birthday theme....the daffodils were amazing this year!
In addition to the birthday cake we made cupcakes and frosted them and put cookies on them that were shaped as blocks with letters on them....
juices were covered with 'I love school' wraps....
Brody so looks up to his big brother Dylan....even when making a birthday wish!
I wore my colored pencil necklace as I thought it worked with the theme....I have to confess I made this in art class in high school and have hauled it around for years....I think the last time I wore it I was pregnant with Kristen....circa 1982...don't judge
Lunch was a cafeteria line....they had trays and were served hotdogs, grapes in little cups, carrots in little cups and pirate booty....it was a bit hit!

Mommy even planned a school picture area with books, apples and genius glasses!

Art class was let by Dylan on the patio....they made butterflies from coffee filters.
Being Spring Break I also volunteered in 'real school' for the springtime events.  Dylan's class room is so colorful and lots of technology for lessons as well. These kids have amazing knowledge and taught me a thing or two!
I loved his picture of Abe Lincoln....is this not the happiest Abe ever looked?
While the kids were at recess we hid 12 eggs for each child with their name on them.  They had to find only their eggs...it was a BIG hit!

I am convinced you are never too old for an egg hunt!

Then on to Brody's Kindergarten class.....we celebrated his birthday along with spring party....it is so true that everything we need to know in life we learn in kindergarten....too bad we forget so much!  Time for a refresher for me!
Kristen is room mom and found the cutest spring plates, spring cookies and juice.
They made and painted caterpillars and they all did such a great job!  They also did bunny baskets - cut and colored.
Even tho it was a fun day....nothing like school being out for spring break.  I love this sight as they run to me when I pick them up.
I had a return to Home Goods to relieve my credit card bill.....so I thought....while in line to return I saw this beautiful woven starfish that asked to come home with me....who am I to say no?  When I first came to California I used to see all kinds of star fish that would come in on high tide and were unable to get back to the water I would throw them back one by one by the hours and unable to save all of them ...but I tried.  I also used to find so many sand dollars....not so much anymore.
I moved a few things around in the living room and I think it is really happy to be on the wall in my house and is that little pop of color this corner was lacking!
We finalized our bathroom remodel materials and remodeling starts this week.  The Rock has very expensive taste and ran our bill up pretty high.
Remodeling two bathrooms at one time???? I only hope we are not 'schooled' by this process!
