The summer of surgery recover continues......not being one to be able to sit still I have to keep busy! We go back to the Dr. tomorrow so hoping that we will have some positive news and that we can be more mobile (at a minimum)! I am still staying very close to Steve, doing all the driving, lifting, etc. and don't feel comfortable for leaving him for very long. The highlight of my day is my morning walk with Rocky, maybe we go out to lunch (he can hardly sit through a meal), maybe browse around for a short period of time, picking up the boys from school and on the rare occasion an outing with family or friends....we tried a movie this week but he had to go to the back of the theatre and stand up for over half of it so not a viable option....
I am finding distraction in little projects.....during the summer some of areas of our neighborhood put things out on their sidewalk with a 'free' sign.....I usually notice these on my early a.m. walks with the Rockster....a few weeks ago I found a wonderful wrought iron chippy table and this week someone put out this great stacking shelf....Rocky and I hauled it home (never an easy task...Rocky just does not carry his share!)....
I had these beautiful cut work embroidered pillow cases, however they were stained on the back side and just unusable....I just could not part with the beautiful hand work on these...
So I decided to try and little repair project.....
Cut out the salvageable handiwork....
Bought some new white pillowcases and stiched the salvaged pieces on the new pillowcases....
Washed and pressed them up and ready to use for our next guests!
I tinkered around with recreating some salads that we had in Italy, Greece and Spain. It has been so humid here this week we have been eating really light. One of my favorites is this Tuscan salad, red cabbage, Napa cabbage, boiled baby new potatoes, white beans, kernel corn, cucumber and red onion, and whisk up a Dijon mustard vinaigrette....yumo....I also make this for my bestie while she also recovers from surgery (total knee replacement)...it has been a summer of surgeries!
but truth be told, you can only eat so much salad so bbq'd this rack of ribs one night with some corn....a little summer feast....
Two new babies on the horizon! One of my friends is having a granddaughter so I made this fun polka dot blankie and then found a matching outfit....love those tutu skirts!
And we have a new great nephew born just this week....we ventured out to shop for him and found him a golf outfit and clubs so he can join team Wilson on the links!
Took this to my bestie to make her smile while she recovers....she is a cat person and I saw this cat at the gift shop when Steve was operated on and I had to get it for her. It has a collar and a bell and is soooo sweet...just like her (the sweet part, not the collar and bell)...
One day before I picked up Brody from KGarten I had a few extra minutes and stopped in the boutiques by his school....I was so happy to find this old apple picking basket! It is just like I like things....chippy, old school, a bit rusty and well used and waiting for me to come rescue it!
It is perfect for holding my magazines and I am sure I will use it for lots of fall decorations which I cannot wait to work on....I am so so so over summer!
I bought a few things from a party and this was included in the shipment as a sample....it is cute however my family does not look or named like this family. It was made of such a nice quality I could just not toss it and had just taken 2 loads of things for donation.....I dug through my sewing basket and found these felt flowers and had matching thread....
So I did some hand work and stitched them on strategically and covered up those strangers!
It turned out really cute and I will find a home for it somewhere!
One of the nicest things that happened to me this week was that my friend came back from an extended stay in France with her beautiful family. She is such a special person in the world and I missed her! She brought me this special treasure - an infinity top from Provence...also some Provence lavender....it made me feel so special! I can't wait to wear it somewhere....I am longing for a get away, thinking fall leaves, wearing jeans and boots and wandering in the woods and eating at cafe's, shopping at boutiques.....I may not have the firm plans but I have the top for it!
I have been trying to bring a little color into the family room....it is pretty neutral and this rug is pretty modern for me but I am pushing myself a bit in the decorating area (baby steps). I think I have finally warmed up to keeping it and I do not have the heart to return it after I have seen all the different configurations Brody comes up with when he plays on it...
Back to rooting around for more projects.....good for me I have a never ending pile of things I want to do!
