Road Trip 2013 - Part 3

So we headed down to the land of the Delta Blues ~ Memphis, Tennessee.

I had been to Memphis alone before (business) and seen all the sights, but so nice to share with Steve.

So we went Walkin' in Memphis....ala one of my favorite songs by Marc Cohn

Then I'm walking in Memphis Was walking with my feet, ten feet off of Beale Walking in Memphis But do I really feel the way I feel

Down Beale and Union Avenue in the early evening and though the night....

Saw the ghost of Elvis On Union Avenue Followed him up to the gates of Graceland Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him They just hovered 'round his tomb But there's a pretty little thing, waiting for the king Down in the Jungle Room
When I was walking in Memphis I was walking with my feet, ten feet off of Beale Walking in Memphis But do I really feel the way I feel

Steve and I in front of BB Kings....

Now Muriel, plays piano Every Friday at the Hollywood And they brought me down to see her And they asked me if I would
To do a little number And I sang with all my might She said, "Tell me are you a Christian child? "And I said, "Ma'am, I am tonight"

 Nighttime stroll on Beale Street.....

So after a night on Beale we headed the next morning to the Peabody for the famous March of the Ducks!!!  We were greeted by the official Duck Master (Duck Dynasty eat your heart out!)  He rolled out the red carpet and filled us in on the history....btw The Peabody is a really really nice hotel!

Promptly at the stroke of 11 the elevator opens and the music starts and out they come....

They move FAST!  Hard to capture them in the few seconds it takes for the run, er, March

They spend the day swimming in the fountain until 5 pm....

Then the ritual starts all over again.....red carpet..... music..... marching....going on for nearly 70 years.

Time for the King.....Back in the 70's I was not a fan of Elvis, per se, until the record company I worked for sent me to Las Vegas to see him in person at The Hilton....it all changed for me then.  He was so dynamic and charismatic that I actually cried through my false eyelashes when he sang....I totally surprised myself! I get the Elvis thing now and since I had been on the Graceland tour before and Steve did not want anyone to wait while he toured and since he loves Elvis I did want him to have some Memphis Elvis Experience so we did the Jacque Janked Up Tour.....which means:

Peaking over the graffiti covered wall around Graceland......
Going to the souvenir shops across the street that have few pieces of memorabilia.....like the chair he used on his return to TV special.....
And encouraging Steve to get his 'Elvis' on at the mock stage.......
Seeing some contracts and other items used on stage.....
Including this black leather number he wore.....wow, that was Elvis at his peak, I believe.....

And sad to see my fave The Rendezous was closed on Mondays!  What the XXX?  However, I noticed they were getting a delivery and I went in and there was a wonderfully kind man inside and when I told him my sad story he invited us in to look around....if these walls could talk, boy would I listen...

I appreciated his kindness.....and loved the visual overload of this historic place....we later bought some Rendezvous BBQ sauce  so we can recreate some of our visit(note - $15.00 on Beale St, however if you go to the nearest grocery store it is around $4.99).....then it was time to get our Civil War Visit on - headed to Vicksburg!
