Thrift Store Finds

It has been quite awhile since I have even felt like browsing the Thrift Stores....my heart is just breaking over my dad's condition and I feel so helpless and sad...however, on my daily call to my mom last Wednesday my mom gave me a good report on my dad, my noon meeting got cancelled and I headed down to my fave Thrift Shop for some browsing......I was so happy to find this great baroque mirror, the tall crystal candlestick, some great metal planes for my boys, a Fisher Price new Doctor Kit (I know what your thinking, how many do I need?) and this great little bench which is very old.....a pretty good haul for under $20.00

The mirror has this great bow on the top and I can't wait to paint it white.....still looking for the right place in the house and think I will be moving some things around before I decide on its permanent home

The little bench found a quick home on the hearth....I put my hand stitched vintage work on it...love the saying 'Away is good, but home is best'!

Like my sisters says....just how much stuff can you cram into your house?' Like my daughter says....'you are an organized hoarder'

I guess when enough is enough I will know!

Weekend: Waterfight, Kobeys and Wishful Fishing

We had our precious boys over Saturday afternoon and night....it was warm in the afternoon so the boys and Gramps had a huge waterfight....they were all soaked and laughed and laughed!

Sunday we took the boys to church and then Kristen and the boys headed off to a birthday party in the park....Steve and I drove down to Kobeys....anyone and everyone who lives in San Diego knows about Kobeys Swap Meet and you can find just about anything you would want there...it is a combo of all the newest must haves and loads of old treasurers too....it was cool and breezy and a perfect day for 'picking'

We found these 'Angry Birds' Tshirts for the boys....they love playing Angry Birds on my IPad

and we found this metal Mustang 30th Anniversary sign.....it was so dirty and had what I thought was a bumpy texture.....after we got home and Steve hit it with a little 'Krud Kleener' it sparkeled and is a shiny and smooth beauty.....we hung it in the garage where we park our Pony ....in fact the Coupe in the top right hand picture is our exact car, rims and all.

Also got to talk to my mom and dad.....so wonderful and bittersweet....Mom is strong as ever and Dad growing weaker every day....he did know who I was and even tho he has been in bed for two weeks now and unable to get up he shared with me that he was at the lake and fishing!! Isn't that a happy thought? I love it....he said he wanted me to come to!!! The more the merrier!!! Hold the bait dad, I am on the way - don't let the big one get away!

Then (1968 Camaro) and Now (1965 Mustang)

My very first car was a 1968 Camaro V8 SS 396....I saved and saved and bought it on November 13, 1972.....it was a lot of car for me and I loved it....wish I could have kept it forever, but it was not meant to be....but great memories for sure.....as much as I loved that car, I really wanted a 1965 Red Mustang...but we were a CHEVY family and that would just not fly!

Fast forward (and it does seem that way!) to July 13, 2011....I did finally get my 65 Mustang and it is a beauty! Worth the 39 year wait for a 47 year old car!

I think my mom and dad are over the Chevy thing....as they have since driven Cadillacs and Lincolns and I wish I could take my mom and dad for a ride....however, now I have Grandsons and they were happy participants sitting in for mom and dad....

Brody takes the wheel (above)....Steve and I joke that Dylan and Brody will drive to their prom in this car....until then we plan on really enjoying the ride!

Happy Birthday to the USA!!! July 4, 2011

We love the 4th of July around here.....we make decorations and decorate the house....go to the Scripps Ranch Parade as we have for 23+ years and then enjoy a BBQ in the backyard.....This year I made these 'Rockets' during the road trip home from visiting my parents...I love the way the looked on the walk way and when the breeze would come up.....

New this year is Uncle Sam on the Tricycle....he is a cute and welcome addition....

On the Mantle I put the Political Button Collection, some Presidential plates Adam brought me from one of his trips to DC, the 4th of July blocks Kristen made and the rag banners my mom and I made while I was visiting ...I wrapped red, white and blue lights in it go make it *sparkle*....

Here we are with our boys watching the parade....I got them Mickey Mouse 4th of July shirts, Flag shorts and matching shoes....they were so cute....they love to ride in the wagon all decorated as we head down to the parade route...

Here they are with the decorated wagon in the front yard before we load up.....

Home for some yummy BBQ and treats!

Hope you all had a wonderful day celebrating this incredible and free country we are blessed to live in!

And a special Salute to you all from Rocky 'Uncle Sam" Road Wilson!
